About FECAF

With a focus on early learning policy and advocacy at the local, state, and federal levels, the Florida Early Childhood Advocacy Fellowship (FECAF) equips early learning professionals with the tools, training, and connections to enact strong policy and create meaningful change for Florida’s children and families.

Skill Development
  • Fellows develop leadership, communication, and advocacy skills.
  • Training includes storytelling, conflict resolution, and tailoring messages to different audiences.
Mentorship & Networking
  • Connect with a diverse cohort of early learning professionals.
  • Engage with agency leaders, policymakers, and past Fellowship participants.
  • Establish relationships that extend beyond the program.
Hands-On Advocacy Experience
  • Participate in real-time legislative experiences, including meetings with Florida legislators.
  • Engage in Children’s Week Florida events and other opportunities to elevate the field.
Support for Participation
  • Monthly meetings combine virtual learning and four in-person gatherings.
  • Travel expenses for required in-person meetings are covered by the Fellowship.
FECAF is open to:
Florida residents working in the field, including:
  • Classroom educators (infant/toddler, preschool, VPK)
  • Family child care home providers
  • Center directors and owners
  • Head Start/Early Head Start
  • Early Learning Coalition (ELC) and other agency staff
  • Stakeholders committed to advancing early learning policy
Experience is not required. Applicants should have a passion for early learning education, a commitment to advocacy, and a desire to grow as leaders in the field.
Fellows commit to:
  • Attending all scheduled meetings (five virtual and four in-person)
  • Completing assigned readings, reflections, and activities
  • Actively engaging with their cohort and program facilitators
  • Upholding the values of collaboration, respect, and inclusion
